Description

SAS Patrol Libya 1942
by Stephen Brown Aviation Artist

Special Air Service Willys Jeep on a reconnaissance patrol in the Libya desert in 1942.
The Willeys MB Jeep was the primary vehicle of choice for the SAS in Northern Africa.
The rugged and tough design was an excellent starting point, but a number of modifications were needed to cope with the hostile desert conditions. These included the removal of anything non essential to save weight, an enhanced cooling system, racks of jerry cans for petrol and water, special navigation aides and the fitting of Vickers K machine guns.
